The striker has shared his joy in joining a select few of Manchester United legends and thanked fans for their support ahead of Sunday's derby clash against Manchester City
Wayne Rooney is revelling in the "great honour" of scoring his 200th goal for Manchester United during the 4-2 win over Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday. The England international netted a double either side of a Robin van Persie strike to secure an opening group game victory in his 406th outing for the Premier League champions.
Rooney insists his primary focus continues to be helping United win matches, but is quite proud of reaching a target attained by only a select few at Old Trafford.
"When you look at the list of top scorers I think I’m only the fourth player in the club’s history to have reached this number after Sir Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and Jack Rowley. It’s certainly something I’m very proud of.
"My main aim is always to help the team win games and if I score that’s a bonus. Hopefully there are still a few more goals to come from me yet.
